Store discountA Store lowers the base rate to 12.7% for most categories, but the ad fee is unchanged — see our eBay Store calculator

Example at higher ad rates on a $50 sale: 2% adds $1.00 (total $8.20), 5% adds $2.50 (total $9.70), 10% adds $5.00 (total $12.20), 15% adds $7.50 (total $14.70). The ad fee eats margin fast — a 15% ad rate more than doubles the base fee on a $50 sale.

How to calculate Promoted Listings fees

Base fee = 13.6% x (sale price + shipping charged) + per-order fee ($0.30 / $0.40). Ad fee = ad rate % x (sale price + shipping charged). Total fees = base fee + ad fee. Effective rate = total fees divided by sale price. You keep = sale price + shipping charged – total fees. Net profit = you keep – item cost – actual shipping cost.

5 tips for Promoted Listings

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I pay the Promoted Listings fee if the item does not sell?

No. The ad fee is charged only when the promoted listing sells. You still pay normal listing and final value fees as usual.

What is the total fee on a $50 sale at 5% promoted?

$9.70: a $7.20 base fee plus a $2.50 ad fee, an effective rate of 19.4%. You keep $40.30 before item and shipping costs.

Is the ad fee charged on shipping too?

Yes. The ad fee applies to the total sale amount, which includes shipping charged to the buyer. That is why this calculator applies the ad rate to item price plus shipping charged.

Does an eBay Store lower the ad fee?

No. A Store lowers the base final value fee (13.6% to 12.7% for most categories), but the Promoted Listings ad rate is unchanged.

What ad rate should I choose?

There is no single right rate. Start low, track sales and profit per item, and raise the rate only on items where the extra sales clearly cover the extra fee.
