How the Comparison Is Calculated
For each platform we compute: Total fees using the 2026 rate rules above on your sale price and shipping charged; You keep (payout) = sale price + shipping charged − total fees; Net profit = payout − item cost − actual shipping; Margin = profit ÷ sale price; Effective fee % = total fees ÷ sale price. Platforms are ranked by “you keep” so the winner is where the most money lands in your pocket.
Tips to Keep More
- Charge shipping separately when it helps. On eBay, fees apply to shipping too — but raising the item price instead of charging shipping rarely saves money once buyer behavior is factored in. Test both.
- Use local pickup for heavy items. Facebook Marketplace local pickup has $0 fees — the single biggest fee saver for furniture and bulky goods.
- Climb Whatnot tiers. Going from Standard (8%) to T3 (5.5%) on fashion saves $1.25 per $50 sale — it compounds fast for live sellers.
- Re-check StockX levels. Each seller level shaves 0.5% off the transaction fee. L5 vs L1 is a $1.00 difference per $50 sale.
- Depop for low-ticket items. With no selling fee, Depop wins most sub-$30 comparisons outright.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which marketplace has the lowest fees?
For a $50 sale, Depop is cheapest at 4.2% effective ($2.10), followed by TikTok Shop at 6% ($3.00). StockX Level 1 is the most expensive at 23% ($11.50). Your cheapest platform depends on price, category and shipping — run your numbers above.
Is eBay or Mercari cheaper for sellers?
Mercari’s flat 10% ($5.00 on $50) beats eBay’s 13.6% + $0.40 ($7.20 on $50). eBay’s larger audience can still mean faster sales and higher prices, so compare your actual expected sale price on each.
Are the fee rates current?
Yes — every rate on this page was checked against official US seller fee pages in October 2026. When a platform changes its fees, we log it on the fee schedules page and update this calculator.
Do these calculators store my numbers?
No. All math runs in your browser with JavaScript — nothing is sent to our servers, and there is no account to create.
Why does the ranking change when I add shipping?
Because platforms treat shipping differently: eBay and Etsy charge fees on shipping, Mercari charges its 10% on buyer-paid shipping, and Poshmark buyers pay shipping separately. The calculator applies each rule exactly.
