Marketplace Selling Fees

Fee structures reflect each platform’s business model. Marketplaces with big buyer audiences and built-in payments (eBay, Etsy, Poshmark) charge more; leaner apps (Depop, TikTok Shop) charge less to win sellers. Some fees also reward volume: Whatnot and StockX cut their commission as your sales grow.
Watch for the hidden multipliers. A “10%” fee is rarely just 10%: payment processing, per-order charges and listing fees stack on top, and several platforms calculate their percentage on the order total including shipping. That is why our calculators itemize every line — and why the all-platform comparator ranks by what you actually keep, not by the headline rate.
Frequently asked questions
What are marketplace selling fees?
Marketplace selling fees are the charges a platform takes from each sale. They usually include a selling commission (a percentage of the order), payment processing (a percentage plus a fixed amount), and sometimes listing fees or per-order fees.
Which marketplace has the lowest selling fees?
For typical US sales, Depop (3.3% + $0.45 processing, no selling fee) and TikTok Shop (6% published referral rate) are lowest. Facebook Marketplace local pickup sales have no fee. See the full comparison chart for details.
Do selling fees include payment processing?
It depends on the platform. Etsy, Depop, Whatnot and StockX charge payment processing separately from their selling commission; Mercari and Poshmark bundle it into a single fee. Our calculators show each line separately.
How do I know these fee rates are current?
Every tool is date-stamped — currently “fees checked October 2026” — and we log every verified change in the fee change tracker. Our methodology page explains the verification process.
