Reverse Price Calculator
Tell this price to net calculator the profit you want to keep, pick your marketplace, and it works backwards through the 2026 fees to give you the exact list price. No more guessing a price and hoping the payout works out — start from the number you want in your pocket.
Fees checked October 2026 · US fee schedules
Uses standard 2026 rates per platform (eBay most categories, Etsy without Offsite Ads, Whatnot Standard tier, TikTok Shop 6%, StockX Level 1). Promoted or ad fees are not included — if you run ads, raise your target net to cover them. Fees change; see the Fee Change Tracker.
Worked Example: Netting $30 on eBay
You paid $10 for an item, shipping will cost you $5, and you want $30 of clear profit on eBay (most categories, 13.6% + $0.40). The price you need is $52.55:
| Line | Amount |
|---|---|
| List price (solved) | $52.55 |
| eBay final value fee (13.6%) | −$7.15 |
| Per-order fee | −$0.40 |
| Payout | $45.00 |
| Item cost + your shipping | −$15.00 |
| Net profit — your target | $30.00 |
Price needed to net the same $30 (with a $10 cost and $5 shipping) on every platform:
| Platform | Price to net $30 | Fees at that price |
|---|---|---|
| Depop | $47.01 | $2.01 |
| TikTok Shop (6%) | $47.87 | $2.87 |
| Mercari | $50.00 | $5.00 |
| Facebook (shipped) | $50.00 | $5.00 |
| Etsy | $50.22 | $5.22 |
| Whatnot (Standard) | $50.84 | $5.84 |
| eBay | $52.55 | $7.55 |
| Poshmark | $56.25 | $11.25 |
| StockX (Level 1) | $56.82 | $11.82 |
How the Reverse Price Formula Works
For most platforms the math is: Price = (target net + item cost + shipping cost + fixed fees) ÷ (1 − fee rate), adjusted for any shipping you charge the buyer. Platforms with flat fees (Poshmark under $15) or minimums (StockX’s $5 transaction minimum) break the simple formula, so this calculator solves the price numerically — it tests prices against each platform’s real 2026 fee rules until the profit matches your target to the cent, then rounds up so you never fall a penny short.
Tips for Pricing to a Target Net
- Net is the only number that pays rent. A $100 sale that nets $12 is worse than a $40 sale that nets $25. Price to the net, not the headline price.
- Round up to a buyer-friendly price. If the solver says $52.55, listing at $54.99 or $52.99 still clears your target and looks natural. Never round down.
- Re-solve after fee changes. A 1% fee rise quietly eats your target. When the Fee Change Tracker logs an update for your platform, run your staples through again.
- Keep a floor price too. Pair this tool with the break-even calculator: one gives your target price, the other your walk-away price for offers.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I calculate the price needed to net a certain amount?
Add your target net, item cost and shipping cost together, add any fixed fees, then divide by (1 − the platform’s fee rate). On eBay that is (30 + 10 + 5 + 0.40) ÷ 0.864 = $52.55 to net $30. This calculator does it for all 9 platforms, including flat-fee and minimum-fee cases.
What does “net” mean in this calculator?
Your clear profit after everything: platform fees, your item cost and your actual shipping cost are all subtracted. If the calculator says you net $30 at a $52.55 list price, $30 is what the sale adds to your pocket before income tax.
Why do I need a higher price on eBay than Mercari to net the same?
Because the fee bite differs: eBay takes 13.6% plus $0.40 per order in most categories, Mercari takes a flat 10%. To land the same $30, the eBay price has to be $52.55 versus $50.00 on Mercari — the buyer, not you, covers the difference.
Does the price include promoted listing or ad fees?
No — it uses each platform’s standard selling fees only. If you pay for promotion (for example eBay Promoted Listings), either raise your target net by the expected ad cost or use the eBay fee calculator, which has a promoted % input.
What if I charge the buyer for shipping?
Enter it in “Shipping charged to buyer.” Platforms that charge fees on shipping too (like eBay and Etsy) are handled correctly — the solver accounts for the fee on the shipping amount as well as the item price.
